This week, B Lab Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand (B Lab AANZ), the not-for-profit behind the global B Corporation (B Corp), launched their provocative new campaign, Better Business, which calls time on outdated, profit-at-all-costs models and celebrates the companies, like Beyond Bank, doing business in a better way.

Certified B Corporations (B Corps) are verified by B Lab for meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. B Corps prove that a new model of business is possible - one that prioritises people and planet alongside profit.

Andrew Davies, CEO of B Lab AANZ, said: “In a world facing climate crisis, social division, and economic instability, we need bold and purpose-driven leadership. The Better Business campaign challenges the status quo and calls on others to join and support the movement towards a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.”

At the heart of the campaign is So Long, Fat Cats, a cinematic television commercial (TVC) created by The Hallway, Plaza Films and award-winning director Paul Middleditch, featuring a literal fat cat (the director’s own much-loved pet) sprawled across a boardroom table; a playful yet pointed metaphor for greed, short-term thinking, and unchecked corporate power.

In contrast to the smug, overfed feline, the campaign celebrates companies that use business as a force for good. From ethical superannuation funds and banks, to food and drink manufacturers and sustainable service providers, Certified B Corps are redefining success in business.

Launching from 25 August to 5 October 2025 across TV, social, out-of-home media , digital, and earned and owned channels in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, the Better Business campaign is the latest instalment of B Lab AANZ’s work to raise awareness of the B Corp movement, which now includes over 10,000 certified companies worldwide.

Beyond Bank are proud to be one such B Corp. Come December, we will be celebrating our tenth anniversary of certification.

What is a B Corp?

B Corps are businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Put simply, it’s a movement that envisions a better economic system – one that benefits people, communities, and the planet.

There are over 10,000 Certified B Corps across the world, spanning more than 160 industries and employing over one million people. 750 of those B Corps are based here in Australia and Aotearoa. Find a B Corp

Beyond Bank is a B Corp. What does that mean?

Being a B Corp guides how we show up for our communities, customers, and people. It means that we are committed to doing business in a way that creates positive social and environmental impact, from our everyday processes through to our strategic ambitions.

By certifying, B Corps step into a framework for continuous improvement. In order to maintain certification, companies must undertake the assessment and verification process every three years, demonstrating they are still meeting B Lab’s standards — which are themselves always improving, with continual input from expert stakeholders.

Here are just a few examples of what being a B Corp means for Beyond Bank.

  • We contributed more than $1.37 million to community services across Australia in FY24/25. Achieved through our Community Reward Program, Double Donation campaign, Community Development grants, and Beyond Bank Foundation grants
  • Commitment to local branches, especially in regional areas. We understand that access to in-person banking remains essential for many Australians. Since January, we’ve relocated our Warrnambool (VIC) and Portland (VIC) branches and refurbished our existing branches in Mandurah (WA), Queanbeyan (NSW), and Pelican Plaza (SA)
  • We reached our target of achieving 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025. Other ways we’re championing sustainability includes using hybrid fleet vehicles and actively tracking our energy, water use, and waste.
